Our work extends values-based grassroots campaigning beyond its usual political applications to create permanent public markets that anchor civic life ensuring healthy and diverse communities. MarketShare initiatives are helping the Seattle community understand how much global cuisine there is right in our own backyard. We look forward to working with other municipalities in the Seattle area and beyond to transform their underutilized spaces into thriving public institutions.
Our pilot phase was a year long program where we helped two immigrant women take steps towards starting their own food businesses. It helped us learn about both the challenges and keys to success immigrant food entrepreneurs face when trying to enter the Seattle culinary scene.
A movement to transform the second floor of King Street Station into a permanent international street food market that incubates micro restaurant startups run by low-income immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs.
